On 4 December 2024, the second workshop on ‘scenarios for the energy future’ took place in Horn, attended by municipal representatives, stakeholders and citizens. A short introduction to the project was followed by a review of the first workshop and some preliminary results of the online survey were presented. Selected renewable energy potentials in Horn were then addressed, including rooftop and ground-mounted photovoltaics as well as small-scale wind power and wastewater energy.
In the interactive part of the workshop, the topics ‘Rooftop photovoltaic potentials’ and ‘Ground-mounted photovoltaics, small-scale wind power and wastewater energy’ were discussed in small groups with the help of posters and prepared questions. The methods and results of the potential assessment were discussed in detail with the project team and open questions were clarified.
In parallel to the poster discussions, one small group was working on the ‘Energy transition game’. Here, the participants were invited to position various renewable energy plants for the generation of electricity and heat (symbolised by different shapes and pins) on a map. The map shows a selected region including Horn and possible areas for different energy plants. If an energy plant is added, a diagram shows how much electricity or heat it generates and what contribution it can make to meeting the region’s energy needs. The small groups were rotated after a while so that each participant could play the ‘energy transition game’.
The various options for electricity and heat generation, as well as suitable locations for renewable energy generation, were the subject of intensive discussion, both at the posters and in the ‘Energy transition game’. It was also important to the participants that areas already used or sealed should be used for electricity and heat generation (multiple use of areas). This was taken into account in the game in particular.
Finally, the results (future scenarios) on the topics of energy, mobility and awareness raising from the first workshop were discussed, prioritised and clustered according to the urgency of implementation, and further ideas were collected. These results will be incorporated into the development of possible scenarios and will be taken up again at the next workshop in spring 2025.
