On 12 November 2024, the second workshop on ‘scenarios for the energy future’ took place in Eggenburg, attended by municipal representatives, stakeholders and citizens. A short introduction to the project was followed by a review of the first workshop and some preliminary results of the online survey were presented. Selected renewable energy potentials in Eggenburg were then addressed, including rooftop and ground-mounted photovoltaics as well as small-scale wind power.
In the interactive part of the workshop, the topics ‘Rooftop photovoltaic potentials’ and ‘Ground-mounted photovoltaics and small-scale wind power’ were addressed in short poster presentations. The methods and results of the potential assessment were discussed in detail with the project team and open questions were clarified. The spatial level of energy generation and distribution as well as the possibilities for storing electricity and heat were discussed in connection with the building-integrated photovoltaic potentials. In addition, the spatial location of small wind turbines and the advantages and disadvantages of the various renewable energy sources presented were discussed.
In the subsequent ‘Energy transition game’, participants were invited to position various renewable energy plants for the generation of electricity and heat (symbolised by different shapes and pins) on a map. The map shows a selected region including Eggenburg and possible areas for different energy plants. If an energy plant is added, a diagram shows how much electricity or heat it generates and what contribution it can make to meeting the region’s energy needs. Important topics for the energy future are geothermal energy, solar thermal energy, district heating and the renovation/insulation of buildings, but it became clear that the generation and distribution of heat in the municipality is a major challenge.
After a short break, a second interactive part followed in which the results (future scenarios) on the topics of mobility and energy from the first workshop were discussed and prioritised according to the urgency of implementation and further ideas were collected. These results will be incorporated into the development of possible scenarios and will be taken up again at the next workshop in spring 2025.
